After deep deliberation and a kick to the crown jewels (see below), Marco Collins and I have determined the 3 songs we think you need to hear this week! First up, it’s Erik Blood:
Porn. It comes in all shapes and sizes, no pun intended. And Seattle producer (Moondoggies, Shabazz Palaces) Erik Blood has observed all kinds and crafted an album all about it. But before you start thinking The Touch Screen is gonna sound like Donna Summer’s ‘I Feel Love’ or the soundtrack to ‘Armagetiton’, know that Erik has crafted a thoughtful album that is dark, but not dirty. Check out his nostalgia for x-rated auteur Henry Paris:

Marco and I went a little bananas for every song on Explone’s new CD telescope + satellite (in stores Sept 4). In fact, it got so ugly between us we had to roshambo to pick the track. Marco wanted to choose the very Queen influenced ‘He’s A Bat’. I fought for the slightly more shoegazer-y ‘Gets In The Way’. Let’s just say Marco is singing an octave higher today, which for a Queen lover, is actually quite helpful. He’ll thank me later, and so will you after hearing this track.
And finally we have The Blakes. The Seattle power trio released The Art Of Losses themselves, and then the fellas over at Light In The Attic got their hands on it, polished it up and put it out again. Second time’s the charm on this very charming disc with all kinds of throwback sounds that when mixed with modernity, sound…timeless. Viva The Blakes!
